NEW: Workforce Development page - Workforce Development

NEW THIS MONTH:

Introductory Youth Work Training - a new course is starting in Exeter early February - see Introductory Youth Work Training Spring 2012. Two further courses are planned for the Summer term for North and East Devon and a fourth one in the Autumn Term for South Devon.

Mental Health, Self Harm & Anger Workshops -There are still a few spaces left on the following one day workshops being held in East Cornwall:

• 12th January   Mental Health & Young People

• 20th January Self Harm & Young People

• 31st January Anger, Children, Young People & You

In contrast to valuable clinical training offered by the Statutory Health Services, these workshops have offered practitioners the chance to share experience in small, supported and engaging groups and to see mental health from a very human and 'real perspective', thereby developing insight and approaches with which to safely and effectively support children and young people that may have mental health issues, on a day to day basis. For more details see the Training flyer Jan 2012 which gives outcomes and indicative content.

ADVA Domestic Violence courses – course dates have now been set up until the end of February 2012. These include the Tackling Domestic Violence and Abuse (one-day) course and the Domestic Violence and Abuse - The Impact on Children (two day) course (participants need to have completed the one-day course first). Bookings are made through an online booking system (www.devon.gov.uk/onlinebookings) and any queries on bookings need to be directed to Claire Birch on tel. 01392 38 2567 and by e-mail: claire.birch@devon.gov.uk.  Details of courses are also on the ADVA website http://www.devon.gov.uk/index/childrenfamilies/domestic_violence/adva-professionals/adva-training.htm

Teen Relationship Toolkit Training – The toolkit can help you engage young people in a session on challenging abuse and control within relationships, helping to lay the foundations for safer and happier relationships. The training centres on a session aimed at 15–19 year olds which explores respect, healthy intimate relationships, and the warning signs of abusive & controlling behaviour and sources of support for young people. It can be anchored by an age appropriate film which follows a teenage relationship gradually spiralling from controlling to abusive behaviour and the impact this has on the central couple and their friends. Though primarily aimed as PHSE in schools, it could equally be used in youth work sessions. Expressions of interest for future training days are being taken, including weekend or twilight sessions – for details contact info@collettewinters.co.uk. It is also possible to have the Teen Relationship Toolkit delivered to young people at a rate of £25 per session, plus travel expenses.
