THE SCOUT MOVEMENT is an international youth movement that welcomes people from all social backgrounds, faiths and cultures. Its aim is to promote the development of social and spiritual potentials as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities. This is achieved through an attractive training programme designed to enable young people to work with others, gain self-confidence and take constructive place in the community.

"Devon Scouting - helping young people become tomorrow's citizens"

Recently there has been the launch of a new programme featuring zones and challenges. This has focused in particular on the 14-18 and 18-25 age ranges with the formation of 2 new sections.

Explorer Scouts sees 14-18 year olds taking a positive part in planning and organising a whole range of activities to meet their programme zones and challenges, with a new emphasis on participation in the Duke of Edinburgh's award scheme.

Scout Network sees the top age range of "young person" scouting rise to 25 allowing young people to take part in their own activities as well as the option to help scouting in a less formal method than the current adult leadership.

THE SCOUT ASSOCIATION is set to receive £300,000 to promote volunteering opportunities to 16-25 year olds. The money will come from a partnership between Sainsbury’s and the youth volunteering charity v. The aim is to recruit more than 1,000 new youth volunteers into scouting. (June 2007)
